Dear All,
Today Selective Embolization of Renal artery is practiced more often for post op Complication of Hge after PCNL and occasionally in patients with Renal Trauma. Embolization is practiced for Renal Angiomyolipoma where bleeding is a real possibility.
We used to perform Renal Artery embolization as a preop procedure in large renal tumours but such cases have become a rarity in modern era and hence the role of Embolization has become rather limited. But still Embolization as a preop procedure could be of use and should not be forgotten. Even today there are centres practicing Embolization of Renal artery in patients with RCC involving IVC.
VS Subramanian,
V Krishnamoorthy, Andrew Novick et al (2009 Urology) have published an article
indicating such Preop Embolization in RCC with IVC Thrombus.
I am providing few articles, if read collectively; will provide knowledge for a procedure not frequently performed.
Steven Sauk
and Darryl A Zuckerman* (2011) in a worth reading article has given most
aspects pertaining to Renal Artery Embolization.

MJ Schwartz et al (2007) have
provided an article on ‘Indications and Experience in over 100 cases of Renal
Artery Embolization’.
https://bjui-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2006.06653.x
David
Li, David C Madoff* et al (2014) has published an article of high value on
‘Role of Renal Artery Embolization in the Tt of Renal Masses’ (PDF provided)
Today many centres practice
percutaneous Ablation of Small Renal Tumours. There are many reports on the
long term outcomes after such procedures as favourable. But one complication
that is likely to occur is Hge after the procedure. Andrew J Gunn* et al (2018) have
published an article where in they have found that Preoperative Embolization can
to a considerable extent obviated with prior Embolization.

I am sure understanding of Renal Artery Embolization, though infrequently performed of late, for Renal Tumours will give insight into salvaging some of these tumours. Hence a good knowledge regarding this is required and this procedure for Renal Tumours cannot be considered Obsolete.
With warm Regards,
Venu
