Dr. Shriram Joshi is popularly considered as teacher of all the teachers. Many of his students are of national and international repute. We can name few; Prof. R Sabnis, Prof. Umesh Oza, Prof. Hemant Pathak and Prof. Mihir Desai. For nearly 15 years he conducted weekly teaching program in Mumbai for all the trainees and urologists interested in learning urology. His teaching session was beginning at 9 PM but there was no time to finish the class. It went on till last case not discussed. He worked tirelessly for teaching of paediatric urology. Nearly 25 years he continued his active association with prestigious urology institute Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital (MPUH). He was teaching post graduate students very regularly at MPUH who produced urologists par excellence. Dr. Joshi was trained under Dr.G H Tilak in Mumbai. In UK he was trained in general urology at Leeds General Infirmary, UK, and later went on to work with Late Prof. Dennis Innes-Williams in paediatric urology at Hospital for sick children, Great Ormond Street, UK. He worked actively at Jaslok Hospital, Bhatia Hospital and MPUH. His main areas of interest are paediatric urology and renal transplant. His deep interest in paediatric urology and his interest in E-learning and teaching made many of us his E-students and many of us owe to him for our academic success. He did the first renal transplant in Andhra Pradesh at Osmania General Hospital, Hyderabad along with late Prof. Ranganadha Rao. He also helps in stabilizing the renal transplant programme at KEM Hospital, Aundh, Pune with the team of Drs. Kirkpekar, Kulkarni and Wadia. He is a recipient of most prestigious president of India’s Dr. B C Roy award, which was conferred on him in year 2003. Dr. Shyam Joshi is member of many prestigious urological societies; USI, ESPU, AAP and Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeon. He was elected by British Association of Urological Surgeon (BAUS) as an honorary member in year 1996. He was also the President of NUTS of SAARC countries. He is among the few who worked to bring paediatric urology as one of the very important sub speciality of field of urology. He conducted sessions, symposiums, workshops and lectures at various states, zonal and national platforms. What we are today in field of paediatric urology, would have not possible without his relentless efforts. He has delivered Prof. H S Bhat, Himadri Sarkar and Dr. Snehal Patel orations on very important areas of paediatric urology. He has published articles in national and international journals. Dedicating this E learning website him is just a small “Guru Dakshinana” to a “Guru” par excellence.
