The need for Sustained Uroeducation

Dear All,

We are discussing how to manage Urological disorders especially cancers during this COVID19 Pandemic with webinars. Many of the Indian Urologists appear to favour treatments for Urological Cancers without undue delay. The two areas Indian experts appear to focus on are Those Related to Cancers and Transplant. We are having yet another Webinar on 23rd April discussants being panelists from SAARC countries. My only problem is that we are conducting too many of these Webinars, too frequently with no time for digestion and as is said that ‘even 'Amrith' if Consumed in Excess is a Poison’. I am not against such activities during this Pandemic but all need to be conducted in moderation. I find that such events are organized by many groups with help from various Pharmacological companies and some are even overlapping. The situation is almost similar to the various workshops that we used to conduct but now we have turned to Webinars. We should rein in ourselves and not perform one up man ship. I would urge USI, to rein in all players and have a well structured programmes organized for the benefit of all Urologists in this country.

This sudden spurt in teaching is laudable. But it should be sustained. Suddenly Urologists of this country have woken up for the need of Educating Us but will this momentum continue. Most of the time, this urge to teach weakens and is claimed that this is due to the workload that they have. I am almost positive that this drive to teach will wither away once we overcome this pandemic.

I find from the programmes that I have the privilege to attend, there are many who have abundant knowledge and experience to continue educating all Urologists by regularly participating in the activities on sites already available and their contributions will be utmost use especially for trainees (also for all of us) who remain silent most often. It is said that ‘if there is a will, there is a way’. By simply stating that the workload prevents participation is not acceptable. I am hoping that in future, we will have many more participants in Educational Activities who will provide their expertise to those of us in need of learning.

These are my views and I stand corrected or even criticized.

With warm Regards,

Venu

I totally agree with you, In fact you have echoed sentiments & feeling of most in country. Every line & every observation of yours is true. So many jokes are being circulated on whats app - "Webinars have become pandemic & spreading faster than corona", "Webinar se muze bachao". I fully agree with your statement that those who have now jumped in teaching on webinars - will they continue with same zeel & enthusiasm once everything becomes normal. I am quite sure all of them will disappear. You are right that too much of Amrith also becomes venom.

Unfortunately pharma has jumped into it & they will turn these webinars for their business purpose & sadly we all will fall into their trap. About Covid there is so much discussion, but after listening to so many seminars on covid, I have stopped listening to them, because there is nothing concrete & everyone says what they think is right. It is also being joked that, in present era every person, whether doctor, lawyer, chartard account - all are expert on covid & are talking as they have done PhD in covid.
But I feel, USI can't do anything. people are organizing in their own capacity & in democratic country, everyone has right to do what they wish to do. USI can't become police.
I do not have solution to this situation. But I feel, like any epidemic, this will also die down & that will done by common man only. Once people are fed up, if there is no viewership, who will conduct these webinars. That day is not far off
