10 Mar 2023 08:34:24 AM3D Nephrometry Scoring System for Renal Tumours undergoing PN
Dear all,
Several
nephrometry scoring systems have been developed based on two- dimensional
computerized tomography images to quantify anatomical features of renal tumours.
Some of them which have been validated are R.E.N.A.L, PADUA, C-index nephrometry, Diameter
Axial Polar Nephrometry, Arterial based Complexity Scoring System, the Surface–Intermediate–Base Margin
Score (SIB Score), Zonal NephRo Scoring System and MAP
Score to Predict Adherent Perinephric Fat (APF, Mayo).
Jingchao Liu, Benkang Shi*, Xianzhou
Jiang* et al (2020) have developed an accurate three-dimensional
nephrometry scoring system.

This Scoring System
quantifies the Anatomical Features accurately and also helps in the prediction of
Warm ischaemia time.
All cases underwent
contrast-enhanced CT scan preoperatively with multi-slice CT system. The
enhanced images (including arterial, venous and excretory phases) were then
input into 3D rendering software for post processing. The Image can be rotated
in all axes to obtain more accurate informations.
Based on the 3D models,
software could automatically calculate tumour volume, endophytic tumour volume
and longitudinal distance from tumor to equatorial plane (LDTE). It can also
demonstrate the whole anatomical structures from different angles. The 3D score
measurements were made directly on 3D models.
This scoring system has been
validated only internally at present but it appears that soon we will be
hearing more regarding the usefulness of this scoring system. The number of Lap
and Robotic PN are on a rise globally and more of technically demanding cases
are taken up for such procedures. Hence it has become necessary for a scoring
system to accurately predict complexities preoperatively.
With warm regards,
Venu
